What the Hell??

Am I the only one who can't figure out the reasoning behind starting Neuvirth over Vokun?

It was clearly stated all throughout preseason that Vokun was the guy--Neuvirth was goalie "1A."

Let's weigh the options and potential outcomes.

1. Start Vokun  and he plays well - No trouble in paradise.  Everyone is happy.
2. Start Vokun and he play badly - Uh oh.  Is Vokun really the guy we thought he was?  Gives justification for giving Neuvirth more playing time.
3. Start Neuvirth and he plays badly - Everyone questions and is pissed at Boudreau.  He is a dirty liar for what he told us all preseason.
4. Start Neuvirth and he plays well - Our current situation.

Where do we go from here?  Is the starting goalie spot going to turn into a time share like it was some of last season?  What is Vokun thinking?

I am very glad we got the win last night but I would argue option #4 was the worst thing that could have happened for the Caps goaltending situation.  This move has to create some tension within a Capitals lockeroom--which we definitely don't need.  We will have to keep a close eye on the comments made in the future by Boudreau and how each goaltenders perform.  Ideally, having two competent goaltenders would be a big plus, especially down the stretch. But look for things to go sour if one or both goalies under-perform, and personally I would put most of the blame on the coach.
